Explore the Sea Activity Pack
Explore the Sea is a resource pack containing a series of activities to teach young people about the different habitats, marine life and environmental pressures affecting tropical coral reef ecosystems.
There are 35 activity sessions within the Explore the Sea resource pack, together with relevant background information to introduce the concepts behind the activities. The pack is arranged in seven topic areas that cover five particular ecosystems (reefs and lagoons, sandy beaches, rocky shores, mangroves and the open ocean) as well as introducing general ecological concepts, and highlighting important conservation concerns. The pack is available in English, French and Malagasy, as the lack of materials in languages other than English was an important driver for the project.
Explore the Sea was primarily designed for grass-roots conservation organisations the western Indian Ocean islands of Rodrigues, Mauritius, Madagascar, the Comoros, and the Seychelles. However, an important element of the resource pack is its flexibility: the activities can be used in both formal and informal teaching settings, and are easy to adapt for use in other locations in and beyond the western Indian Ocean.
Explore the Sea is available to download, for free, from our downloads page, so is easy to access by any wildlife or conservation groups, youth clubs, schools or other organisations looking for help to encourage a sense of stewardship and responsibility in young people, through practical, hands-on education.
So far, 250 people from 54 countries have downloaded Explore the Sea resources. They represent schools, universities, small grass-roots NGOs, large international NGOs, ecotourism companies, and Government agencies, as well as independent educators and interested individuals.

We need a new environmental consciousness on a global basis. To do this, we need to educate people
